Calling all PDXers! Let’s get together and organize to restore a safe climate! Please reply to this posting if you’re interested! Nicole

  • @Nicole
What we "need is a comprehensive strategy for opposition, and a division of labor in carrying it out."
The strategy for opposition should include all of the 198 nonviolence actions listed by Gene Sharp
speaking about nonviolence, McKibben is not well informed when he says:
"We have done very little systematic study of these techniques.”

Actually the world’s expert on nonviolence lives in Boston MA, Gene Sharp.
He founded the Albert Einstein Institute on nonviolence and wrote the book.
There is now a list of 198 nonviolent actions that can be taken to bring down a government.

    Two books offered by
Sharp, Gene. From Dictatorship to Democracy: A Conceptual Framework for Liberation. New York: New, 2012

Dr. Sharp and Jamila Raqib, Self-Liberation: A Guide to Strategic Planning for Action to End a Dictatorship or Other Oppression.
Gene Sharp founded the Albert Einstein Institution to advance the worldwide study and strategic use of nonviolent action.

  • @Nicole I’m ready willing and able to volunteer.
My view is that making Trump Administration “The Enemy” personifies the climate change movement.
Make a list of all the specific locations where people are fighting:
Spirit Stone Camp, Standing Rock Tribe fighting DAPL
    BC Canada, fighting Kinder Morgen
    Portland City Council meetings
Port meetings about fossil fuel terminals

create a physical war room with a map of US and Canada to mark every battle location
    gather information about every battle
Create a digital war room that shows maps, links to websites, analysis, battle plans.

The time has come for all good people to come to the aid of their country.

Great ideas, @igranderojo! Sharp is definitely central to my thoughts on strategy and nonviolent action. I’d also recommend This Is an Uprising by Engler and Engler. Let’s plan on getting a group together to meet in the new year!
